Eligibility to Start Training
Must have a valid Driver’s License
Must have a valid Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP)
Must have a valid DOT physical
Must be legally able to be employed in the United States
In-Class Training
The students will familiarize themselves with basic operating characteristics like Pre- and Post-Trip Inspections, backing, docking, coupling and uncoupling of a Commercial Motor Vehicles (CMV). They will learn the practices required for safe operation of the combination vehicle on the highway under various road, weather, and traffic conditions. Also, they will learn about the advanced skills necessary to recognize potential hazards and the procedures needed to handle a CMV when faced with a hazard
Behind-the-wheel Training
Behind-the-wheel training includes two parts: Range and Public Road.
Range covers seven topics which include:
Vehicle Inspection Pre-Trip/Enroute/Post-Trip
Straight Line Backing
Alley Dock Backing (45/90 Degree)
Off-set Backing
Parallel Parking Blind Side
Parallel Parking Sight Side
Coupling and Uncoupling
For Behind the wheel Public Road the instructor will engage in active two-way communication with the trainees and will discuss skills like vehicle controls, hazard perception, and visual search.
